Ashwagandha is the single most reliable herb in the Ayurvedic cabinet, and the one most people start with. Ours is milled from Nagori-grade roots — the small, chalk-white, high-withanolide grade grown around Nagaur in Rajasthan — dried in the shade, then stone-ground and sieved so the powder stays pale and smells of fresh earth rather than dust.

Classified as a rasayana (rejuvenative) and a balya (strength-giving) herb, ashwagandha is traditionally taken at night in warm milk to help the body settle after a demanding day, and in the morning with ghee or honey when the goal is stamina. Because it is a root powder rather than an extract, you get the whole root profile — withanolides, alkaloids, starches and fibre — in the proportion the plant grew them.

No additives, no preservatives, no anti-caking agents. One ingredient on the label, and it is the one on the front.

Grinds finer than the last brand I tried

This is clearly recently ground rather than sitting in a warehouse for a year. It dissolves without lumps, which the last one I tried absolutely did not. Delivery was quick and it was well packaged.

    Reliable every time

Very finely milled — no grittiness at all when I mix it. I have started using it in a face pack as well as internally. Will definitely buy again.

Recommended by a friend — glad I tried it

Opened the pouch and the aroma filled the kitchen. I take half a teaspoon in warm milk each evening and have done for two months. Very happy, and I will be reordering.

    Better than expected

I have bought this herb from four different suppliers now and this is the best of them. My partner has started taking it too, so we are getting through it quickly. It would be good to have a larger size available.

    Repeat buy for me

Opened the pouch and the aroma filled the kitchen. I take half a teaspoon in warm milk each evening and have done for two months. Docking a star only because I would like clearer batch dates on the pack.

    Real quality, not supermarket grade

Questions & answers4

4 of 4 answered

  • Does it dissolve properly, or does it settle at the bottom?

    Ellie B. · 3 weeks ago

    • It's a milled whole herb rather than an extract, so some settling is normal. Stir it into something warm and drink it fairly promptly — warm milk or a smoothie works better than cold water.

      HerbasenseOfficial answer· 3 weeks ago

    • I whisk mine into warm milk and it stays put long enough to finish the cup.

      Nikhil S.· 2 weeks ago

  • How strong is the taste?

    James H. · last month

    • Honestly, quite earthy — that's true of the herb rather than of our version of it. Most people take it with honey, in milk, or blended into something with a stronger flavour of its own.

      HerbasenseOfficial answer· last month

  • Is this suitable for vegetarians and vegans?

    Sofia L. · 2 months ago

    • Yes — it's a single plant ingredient with nothing of animal origin used in the product or the processing. The full ingredient list is on the Ingredients tab above.

      HerbasenseOfficial answer· 2 months ago

  • Where is it sourced from, and is it tested?

    Nikhil S. · 3 months ago

    • Sourcing is listed under Origin at the top of this page. Every batch is checked on arrival for identity and purity before it's packed, and we keep the batch records for each lot we sell.
