Whole pieces rather than broken bits, which is exactly what I wanted. I have been using it in a winter kadha along with tulsi and ginger. Five stars from me.

Daru haldi means "wood turmeric": break the bark and the inside is the same startling yellow, though the compound responsible is berberine rather than curcumin. It is one of the great bitter-astringent herbs of the Himalayan foothills, used for the liver, for stubborn skin conditions, and — as the concentrated extract rasaunt — for the eyes.
Berberine is now among the most-studied plant alkaloids in the world, which has made this humble bark unexpectedly fashionable. In classical use it is a kapha-pitta herb: drying, clearing and cooling, taken as a decoction rather than a powder.
Supplied cut and sifted from wild-crafted Himalayan stands, harvested on rotation so the shrubs recover between cuts.

Whole pieces rather than broken bits, which is exactly what I wanted. I make a decoction twice a week and the strength is consistent every time. It would be good to have a larger size available.

Well sorted, properly dried and no musty smell whatsoever. Storing it whole means it still smells strong three months in. It would be good to have a larger size available.

Do I need to grind it myself?
Hassan A. · 3 weeks ago
For most uses, yes — it's sold whole so it keeps its aroma far longer than a pre-ground powder would. A spice grinder or a pestle and mortar is plenty.

Is it cleaned and sorted, or will I need to pick through it?
Dev K. · 2 months ago
It's sorted and cleaned before packing, so you shouldn't be picking out stalks or grit. If a pack ever arrives otherwise, tell us and we'll replace it.

Is it safe during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?
Sofia L. · 2 months ago
We don't recommend starting any herbal supplement in pregnancy or while breastfeeding without speaking to your midwife or doctor first. Please take the ingredient list to them and follow their advice over ours.
