Wild carrot seed is a member of the same aromatic family as cumin, fennel and ajwain, and it behaves like them: warming, carminative, faintly sweet, and useful anywhere digestion has gone quiet. In North Indian home practice a pinch of crushed carrot seed in hot water is a standard after-dinner remedy.

It has a second, older reputation as a women's herb, used traditionally to encourage a delayed cycle — which is precisely why it must be avoided in pregnancy.

The seed is also where carrot seed essential oil comes from, so the aroma is unmistakable if you crush a few between your fingers: dry, woody and sweet all at once. We supply clean, whole, viable seed, gravity-separated and free of chaff.

Repeat buy for me

You can see the quality as soon as you open the bag. I have been using it in a winter kadha along with tulsi and ginger. Perfectly decent, but I have had better value elsewhere for this particular herb.

    Great find

You can see the quality as soon as you open the bag. I make a decoction twice a week and the strength is consistent every time. It would be good to have a larger size available.

    Good value for the quality

I grind it fresh myself, so getting it whole matters to me. I make a decoction twice a week and the strength is consistent every time. Will definitely buy again.

    Better than expected

You can see the quality as soon as you open the bag. The larger size is much better value and it keeps perfectly. Delivery was quick and it was well packaged.

    Happy with this

Arrived clean, well graded and free of the dust you often get. I have been using it in a winter kadha along with tulsi and ginger. A genuinely good product at a fair price.

Questions & answers3

3 of 3 answered

  • Do I need to grind it myself?

    Tom W. · 3 weeks ago

    • For most uses, yes — it's sold whole so it keeps its aroma far longer than a pre-ground powder would. A spice grinder or a pestle and mortar is plenty.

  • Is it cleaned and sorted, or will I need to pick through it?

    Rachel M. · last month

    • It's sorted and cleaned before packing, so you shouldn't be picking out stalks or grit. If a pack ever arrives otherwise, tell us and we'll replace it.

  • Is the packaging recyclable?

    Tom W. · 2 months ago

    • The outer carton is card and goes in with your paper recycling. The inner pouch is kept airtight to protect the contents, so check your local authority's guidance for that part.
