Tulsi is the herb Indian households grow by the door and drink every morning, and there is nothing exotic about how it is used: hot water, five minutes, done. It is an adaptogen with a clove-like aroma, traditionally taken for immunity through the winter, for a clear chest, and to take the edge off a stressful day.

Drying is where most tulsi on the market goes wrong. Heat-dried leaf turns khaki and smells of hay. Ours is shade-dried on racks so the leaf stays olive-green and the eugenol-rich aroma survives — open the pouch and you should smell clove and pepper immediately.

Whole leaf rather than cut-and-sift, so you can see the quality, and so the oils stay in the leaf until you pour water on them.

Proper whole herb, no dust

Arrived clean, well graded and free of the dust you often get. Grinding a week's worth at a time works well for me. Delivery was quick and it was well packaged.

Arrived clean, well graded and free of the dust you often get. Storing it whole means it still smells strong three months in. Very happy, and I will be reordering.

Whole pieces rather than broken bits, which is exactly what I wanted. The larger size is much better value and it keeps perfectly. No hesitation in recommending it.

    Just what I needed

Arrived clean, well graded and free of the dust you often get. I make a decoction twice a week and the strength is consistent every time. Delivery was quick and it was well packaged.

You can see the quality as soon as you open the bag. The larger size is much better value and it keeps perfectly. Exactly as described on the listing.

    Will reorder

I grind it fresh myself, so getting it whole matters to me. Storing it whole means it still smells strong three months in. A genuinely good product at a fair price.

Questions & answers4

4 of 4 answered

  • Do I need to grind it myself?

    Sofia L. · 4 weeks ago

    • For most uses, yes — it's sold whole so it keeps its aroma far longer than a pre-ground powder would. A spice grinder or a pestle and mortar is plenty.

  • Is it cleaned and sorted, or will I need to pick through it?

    James H. · last month

    • It's sorted and cleaned before packing, so you shouldn't be picking out stalks or grit. If a pack ever arrives otherwise, tell us and we'll replace it.

  • Do you ship outside the UK?

    Tom W. · 2 months ago

    • We do, to most of Europe. Delivery cost and time are shown at checkout once you've entered an address. Some countries restrict certain botanicals on import, so it's worth checking your own customs rules first.

  • Is it safe during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?

    Anita R. · 3 months ago

    • We don't recommend starting any herbal supplement in pregnancy or while breastfeeding without speaking to your midwife or doctor first. Please take the ingredient list to them and follow their advice over ours.
