Jasmine sambac is mogra: the small, waxy, night-opening jasmine of South Indian garlands, and one of the most expensive aromatics on earth. The flowers are picked by hand before dawn and processed the same day, and it takes several thousand of them to yield a few millilitres of absolute.

A neat absolute is too thick, too intense and too costly to use as it comes, so this is presented the way perfumers actually use it: 5% in moringa seed oil, ready to apply to pulse points or add to a blend without any further dilution. The aroma is deep, sweet, narcotic-floral with a green-tea undertone — heady rather than pretty.

Jasmine is the classical oil of the evening: for mood, for calm, and for sleep. Do not expect it to smell like a jasmine candle; the real thing is far more animalic.

The amber bottle and drop insert are exactly right. I follow the dilution advice on the listing and have had no irritation at all. Five stars from me.

    Very pleased

Very strong — I use half as many drops as I did with my previous bottle. The 30ml size is far better value if you use it regularly. Exactly as described on the listing.

    Reliable every time

I blend my own oils and this has become a staple. I have blended it with lavender and the result is lovely. Very happy, and I will be reordering.

You can tell immediately that this has not been cut with anything. I use six drops in thirty millilitres of coconut oil for a scalp massage. Pleased I found this shop.

  • Can I put this straight onto my skin?

    Anita R. · 3 weeks ago

    • No — it's undiluted, and it needs a carrier oil first. A few drops in a tablespoon of a carrier is the usual starting point, and patch-test on a small area before you use it more widely.

      HerbasenseOfficial answer· 2 weeks ago

    • I dilute mine in sweet almond oil and it's been fine, but definitely patch-test first.

      Anita R.· 2 weeks ago

  • Is it pure, or blended with a carrier already?

    Hassan A. · last month

    • Pure and undiluted — nothing added. That's why a small bottle goes a very long way, and why it has to be diluted before it touches skin.

  • Do you ship outside the UK?

    Dev K. · 2 months ago

    • We do, to most of Europe. Delivery cost and time are shown at checkout once you've entered an address. Some countries restrict certain botanicals on import, so it's worth checking your own customs rules first.

      HerbasenseOfficial answer· 2 months ago

  • Is it safe during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?

    Meera P. · 3 months ago

    • We don't recommend starting any herbal supplement in pregnancy or while breastfeeding without speaking to your midwife or doctor first. Please take the ingredient list to them and follow their advice over ours.
